Ten tracks of Norse chant, war drums, and distorted guitars. No filter.
Sacramento, CA — May 2026 — Formwave Studio today announced the release of Bone and Breath, the debut full-length album from IronThew, the Viking metal project founded by independent musician and producer FORM. The album is available now on all major streaming platforms, in lossless HiFi on Bandcamp, and on vinyl through [Retailer].
Bone and Breath is ten tracks of Viking metal built from the ground up by one person with complete creative control, a home studio, and a playlist problem he decided to solve permanently. FORM wrote, recorded, produced, and mixed the entire album through Formwave Studio, the independent label also home to nu metal project Cold Arc and nocturnal trip hop project Oleanderia.
The origin of IronThew is the kind of story that only makes sense in retrospect. FORM received a video from Duane of woodshoprocks.com, a master luthier who has hand-built several of FORM’s guitars and basses, showing students singing a Viking tune inside an empty metal shipping container, drumming on the walls. The acoustic resonance was raw, physical, and unlike anything a conventional studio produces. FORM heard a gap. Viking chant and war drum energy with modern metal production behind it. Not reenactment. Not costume. What modern Vikings would actually listen to.
Bone and Breath is Chapter 1 of an ongoing saga. Listeners can expect more chapters. Whether they are prepared for more chapters is a separate question.
Artist Statement
“This is the first album I’ve done like this. I was inspired by a group of local men, I know, chanting in a shipping container. Loaded up with guitars from woodshoprocks.com, I set to work. This is the result. I hope it inspires you to plunder and pillage a mythical village in your life.”
— FORM, IronThew
